What to expect at The Spark Summer 2020?

"In a word, Spark is AMAZING. If musical theater is what your child loves, don't miss this rare opportunity!"

Introducing The Spark Connects

This summer classes are moving to a virtual training space. Our online programming offers a flexible schedule and diverse classes for every age group. Spark classes inspire creativity and connection while developing students’ skills.

Our virtual performance programs and technique workshops are not your traditional online courses. We offer live classes, at home materials, and individual feedback, taking virtual training to a new level.

Performance Opportunities

There are two opportunities to perform with us this summer. We’re All In This Together is an online production intensive that offers a virtual performance opportunity. The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee will run with a modified rehearsal process incorporating online and in-person small group work designed to maintain a safe space for our students and faculty.

Socially Distant Conscience Space

The Spark will be adhering to CDC and State of Colorado recommendations for re-opening and will continue to update our policies and operating procedures to ensure that our space remains safe.

Our space allows us to operate as an open-air venue for rehearsals and performances. We are bringing in a professional cleaning crew and continuing with stringent protocols for daily cleaning, wearing masks, and requiring physical distancing.

If we are able to host a live audience, this summer it will not be without alteration. We will be limiting audience capacity and welcoming patrons with a no-touch entry process.

The Spark always offers.

Top-Notch Training

Our incredible faculty, made up of working artists, academics, and established teachers, provide comprehensive training to students in a variety of classes.

Customized Classes

Students customize their summer by signing up for the classes that excite them. Check out details about our summer classes.

Broadway Connections

The Spark Connects is bringing together Broadway and professional artists from across the country to teach in our virtual space.

Personal Attention

At The Spark we believe that one-on-one attention is the biggest catalyst for student's growth. We promise that each student will receive personal attention throughout the training process.

Winner of the Tony and the Drama Desk Awards for Best Book, The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee has charmed audiences across the country with its effortless wit and humor. Featuring a fast-paced, wildly funny and touching book by Rachel Sheinkin and a truly fresh and vibrant score by William Finn, this bee is one unforgettable experience. An eclectic group of six mid-pubescents vie for the spelling championship of a lifetime. While candidly disclosing hilarious and touching stories from their home lives, the tweens spell their way through a series of (potentially made-up) words, hoping never to hear the soul-crushing, pout-inducing, life un-affirming "ding" of the bell that signals a spelling mistake. Six spellers enter; one speller leaves! At least the losers get a juice box.

What They're Saying

"Spark is a truly fabulous chance for kids to perform at a high level, and gain valuable experience in stage and teamwork. Spark's unique approach--combining university students and adults with youth in a musical theater environment--provides for an experience of rapid growth in theater skills for kids, while creating meaningful relationships with cast members of varying ages. If musical theater is what your child loves, don't miss this rare opportunity!"

"I love The Spark because it gives my child so many options to develop as a performer. She has utilized the dance classes to learn technique and private lessons to prepare for auditions.  The Spark has become an important part of our family."

"His skills and abilities have grown tremendously, as has his sense of responsibility  and his self-worth. As a non-profit, I appreciate that The Spark welcomes all regardless of financial means, with opportunities for scholarships and work exchange. They are dedicated to the arts in Boulder, and I am so happy that our family is part of something special."

"As an eight grader my granddaughter, joined Spark in the fall and has found it a great challenge and support for growing her natural talents. Performance nights she leapt to a new height.  Half the front row was friends, cousins, aunts and uncles.  She was flawless and we were....proud and grateful!"

"We had an amazing experience at The Spark! My teenaged daughter did a show there and we were so impressed with the professional, yet supportive, training and opportunities she had. She was challenged in a part she loved, gained so much confidence, and grew so much as a performer! I would highly recommend The Spark!"
