The Spark Program is focused on a professional rehearsal process in which students are implementing skills learned in classes, where foundations are built. Spark students go expand their training through intensive opportunities where they explore resume building skills.
Spark Classes follow a conservatory model with smaller class sizes and individual pathways to success. We want students to take classes that will best serve their artistic journey and inspire them to dig deeper.
We are focused on providing comprehensive training. In our classes students will experience various training methodologies, while exploring theory and developing foundational skills essential to a theater artist's success.
Beyond our standard classes we offer Spark Practicums which are classes specifically tailored to help students succeed on stage. These class curricula are customized for each associated production, to build on techniques and ideas that will be used in rehearsals and performances. To participate in these classes students must be registered for the associated production.
Classes are offered weekly, typically in-person; though some classes are offered online through The Spark Connects, a virtual training space.
Spark Productions are multi-generational and modeled around mentorship; students rehearse and perform alongside professional artists who share their insight, provide supportive coaching and model passion and professionalism for their artistic craft.
Rehearsals are run per Equity guidelines, so we utilize a called rehearsal system vs a set block of time. This allows our students a bit more flexibility in their schedules and means less sitting around; when you’re with us, you’re working! Following Equity guidelines also empowers our students to be individually responsible and provides opportunities for student leadership roles as our Deputy(s) and Dance Captain(s).
Training doesn't stop just because we are in rehearsal. This is also the time to implement skills and concepts learned in Spark Classes.
Students must register and audition to participate in Spark Productions. Learn more about our Audition Process and review our Casting Policy for more insight about Spark Productions.
Spark Intensives are in-depth workshops led by core team members and guest teaching artists. Intensives are offered throughout the year to support our seasonal programming.
Intensives are condensed learning opportunities where students are fully saturated in a specific subject matter. Allowing students to learn, explore, practice, and apply a technique or concept. Some intensives result in a workshop style presentation, some do not - this is dependent on the subject matter which varies from intensive to intensive.
Like classes, intensives are typically in-person; though some intensives are offered online through The Spark Connects, a virtual training space.
